Six categories, mapped by what to watch

This shortlist spans six categories, and each has its own thing to watch: sneakers get substituted, sweats vary in weight, bags are bulky, gadgets carry batteries and certification questions, home goods are heavy, and beauty products are frequently restricted. Below, each mapped accordingly.

Notes by category

Six categories, each with the specific risk attached to it.

1Sneakers

Good for: Size tag and outsole photographed, with consistent seller history.

Confirm: That the size on the tag is the size you ordered.

QC focus: Request the tongue tag and the outsole tread.

Trap: Shop images reused everywhere, priced far below the shop itself.

2Hoodies & sweats

Good for: The GSM figure is stated and the backing is photographed close up.

Confirm: The stated fabric weight before comparing prices.

QC focus: Check the backing and ask for the weight in grams.

Trap: No weight figure, which is how a heavy-looking sweatsuit turns out thin.

3Bags

Good for: Interior, hardware and stitching each photographed, materials stated.

Confirm: Packed dimensions, since bags are bulky relative to weight.

QC focus: Ask for the inside of the bag and a hardware close-up.

Trap: Beauty shots alone — the inside is where the quality actually shows.

4Gadgets

Good for: Specifications are stated precisely and certification is mentioned where relevant.

Confirm: That your line accepts batteries, and that certification is adequate.

QC focus: Confirm what is included and whether a battery is fitted.

Trap: Batteries, which many lines refuse outright regardless of size.

5Home & kitchen

Good for: Dimensions and materials stated, since weight drives the freight bill.

Confirm: Packed weight before you treat a low price as a bargain.

QC focus: Check dimensions and ask about packaging reduction.

Trap: Heavy goods at a low price, where freight costs more than the item.

6Beauty

Good for: Ingredients and volume stated, with a seller who has a track record.

Confirm: That your line carries the category at all, before you buy.

QC focus: Confirm seals are intact and the contents match the listing.

Trap: The most restricted category here — many lines refuse liquids and aerosols.

Public material including brand shops. Live stock and prices stay on Tmall itself.
